Good Friday, April 15, 2022

The Family Choir will be singing Friday, April 15, 2022 for the  3 p.m. Service.  We will meet at 1:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon to get organized for the practice and then begin rehearsal at 1:30 a.m.  The practice will end at 2:30 p.m. to leave a period of quiet before the Service begins.

The transparent vinyl sheet in front of the choir area at the front has been removed.  There are no longer any social distancing requirements, and no mask requirements.  Choir members are welcome to join in singing for this service.  Those who may prefer to sing with the choir from the pews in front of the choir are welcome to do so.  If you are still concerned about COVID, please feel free to join us from the congregation.

The Good Friday Service is not a Mass.  Instead, it consists of three components: the Liturgy of the Word, the Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion.  Therefore, we won't be singing the usual parts of the Mass for Lent (except for the Gospel Acclamation), and there will be no Entrance or Recessional hymns.

The music selections for this Good Friday Service are listed below.

CBW - Catholic Book of Worship III

Mass Parts - Please see the 2021 Mass Setting available online.

Entrance:  No entrance hymn.  The priest and servers enter in silence.

First Reading:

Psalm:
Psalm 31 - link to PDFlink to audio

Response:  Father into your hands, I commend my spirit.

Second Reading:

Gospel Acclamation:  2021 Mass Setting - Lenten Gospel Acclamation

Christ became obedient for us to death, even death on a Cross.
Therefore God exalted him and gave him the name above every name.

Solemn Intercessions:  Fr. Mitch will be intoning the intercessions.  He will first intone the intention.  There will be a brief pause.  Then he will say (or sing) the prayer response.  The choir will respond with a simple sung Amen.  There are 10 intercessions in total.

Adoration of the Cross:  Fr. Mitch will process in from the back of the church with a cross veiled in a violet covering.    He will first uncover a little of the upper part of the cross.  Then he will sing, "Behold the wood of the Cross, on which hung the salvation of the world."  The choir and congregation responds "Come, let us adore."   The second time more of the cross is exposed and the refrains repeated.  Similarly, the same thing is done the third time and the entire veil is removed.  Fr. Mitch will venerate the cross and then be seated.  There will not be any veneration of the cross by the congregation at this time.  The hymn will be sung after Fr. Mitch is seated.

Hymn During Adoration of the Cross:  CBW #378 O Sacred Head Surrounded

Communion:  Fr. Mitch will prepare the bare altar for Holy Communion.  The Our Father will be receited along with additional prayers.  There will be no Lamb of God said or sung.

March 20, 2022, 3rd Sunday of Lent,

The Family Choir will be singing Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.  We will meet at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday morning to get organized for the practice and then begin rehearsal at 9:30 a.m.  Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Mass will begin at at 11:00 a.m.

The transparent vinyl sheet in front of the choir area at the front has been retained for now.  There are no longer any social distancing requirements, but everyone must still wear a mask.  Cantors are allowed to sing without masks if they're 3 m away from anyone.  However, with the choir area available singing 3 m apart from each other isn't practical.  Singing and wearing a mask don't go very well together, so we're going to continue to go unmasked behind the barrier and limiting attendance to two family groups that can distance themselves 2 m apart from each other behind the transparent vinyl sheet at the front of the church.

An alternative for anyone who wishes to join, would be to sit in the front rows directly in front of the choir area.

Hopefully, things will improve soon so that we can accomodate everyone who would like to attend in the choir area.
